Competition 2024 in Greek:

Microphilosophical Dialogues

Winter Seminar Ancient Greek

The Hellenikon Idyllion, also known as the Garden of the Muses, is a musical and cultural meeting place on the Gulf of Corinth that aims to promote the ancient Greek language as well as the fine arts.

With the competition for 2024, we continue to pursue the goal of promoting the classical Greek language as well as the noble art of philosophizing among young people. Our hope is that we can contribute to the good life and joy. We want school knowledge of Greek to be used to creatively shape philosophical dialogues.

Philosophical Symposium in ANCIENT GREEK:
September 04 - 10, 2023

with high school teacher Roland Jurgeleit of the Benediktiner-Gymnasium Ettal

Philosophical Symposium

Various young people meet for a symposium and drink wine. On the occasion of the enjoyment, they get into conversation. Different opinions emerge as to what the good life consists of; for Socrates says to Crito: οὐ τὸ ζῆν περὶ πλείστου ποιητέον ἀλλὰ τὸ εὖ ζῆν. (Plato, Crito 48b) So what does "living well" mean? One pleads for fun in life, one for wealth, one for prestige, one for freedom. But these drafts do not go unchallenged. According to Socrates' motto: Ὁ δ' ἀνεξέταστος βίος οὐ βιωτὸς ἀνθρώπῳ (Plato, Apology 38a), the drafts presented should be checked in the resulting conversation: Is the primary pursuit of pleasure, money , Fame or freedom of attachment able to dem Giving life meaningful meaning? How does the question of meaning relate to the problem of the ecological threat to the world? The aim is to show to what extent ancient philosophy can contribute to approaches to finding a solution.
